Birch Lake is
regarded by many as the most beautiful lake on the complex, and the first
glimpse of it from the dam wall has been described by
many visitors as 'simply stunning.' Redmire-sized, Birch is a long lake, with
the non-fishing bank composed of an unbroken series of over-hanging Birch
trees, hence its name. A very atmospheric lake, and one of the most tranquil
and private lakes in France, it is set in fully-fenced private woodland which
we also own. The wildlife on Birch is rich and varied, and it is home to resident
kingfishers, birds of prey, red squirrels, mallards and many species of song
birds.
Like Poplars, Birch contains carp to over 40lb with many 20lb and 30lb fish,
including many superb big commons. The carp tend to be caught from the far
margin against the trees, but more recently open water spots have also been
productive. Best cat is around 75lb with 40lb and 50lb catfish common.
The
coarse fishing is also excellent, with the same species found in Poplars, and
livebaits are easily caught.
